  2. Keep the Essentials with you- Pack an essentials box or bag that include items such as toothbrush, clothes, medication, paperwork, chargers, toilet paper, etc. This way you aren’t trying to look through every box when you move into your new place.
  3. Invest in Equipment/Supplies- A few days before the big move stock up on supplies. The last thing you want is to have to make a run to the store while you’re packing moving boxes or making sure everything is out of the house. Box cutters, adhesive bandages, permanent markers, packing tape, paper towels, garbage bags and water bottles are helpful to have on hand before, during and after your move.
  4. Be Ready- The more you have packed and ready to go the less you’re going to pay in your hourly rate. Professional moving companies work quicker when they are loading boxes and standard furniture rather than trying to figure out where to put your knick knacks in the truck or some will even require you to put them into a box before they load them into the truck which will cost you in time. 5. Animals- If you have animals make sure that they are secured in the backyard, crated or in a separate room. They might not get along with all of the professionals on site or might be a distraction from the movers being as efficient.
  6. Parking- Make sure that the movers have a clear place to back in allowing the shortest distance to carry furniture and boxes in to the truck. This will allow less time for them to ask you to move your vehicle or ask where to park. If you are in the city make sure that you have cleared with the landlord a designated time and place to park the truck. If it is during winter try to have the pathway shovels and de-iced to ensure safety and efficiency. Some moving companies will charge extra if the crew has to shovel and de-ice before they begin the loading process.
